Copota School for the Blind

Amy, Sandra and I were lucky enough to work with Aunt Phillipa, the founder of an organization called You are Able (www.youareable.info) to bring donations to a school outside of  the town of Masvingo called Copota School for the Blind. Prior to our trip we collected supplies, backpacks and monetary donations to take with us. Many of our friends and family contributed to our efforts and it was very much appreciated! Eighty students, their parents and 24 teachers/support staff returned to the school for the day as they were already on their winter break. I think for me the most memorable part of the day was seeing how much the teachers and parents were invested in the children. The sense of community is something that is hard to put into words. We will continue to work with the organization in the future, there is still so much need at Copota! Please check out the website (www.youareable.info) for ways you can donate and make a difference! Thank you so much to everyone at Copota, Kevin, Angus & Phillipa for organizing and having us be a part of the special day!

This man is a former student at the school and he traveled with his younger brother so that he could attend.

We were lucky enough to get a concert from a few of the students! Their skill is amazing!
